On 22 January 2006, more than one thousand people turned up in the Hanbury Street, off Brick Lane, London E1`, to attend a public meeting organised in support of the KHOODEELAAR! campaign against the Crossrail hole role of the East London borough of Tower Hamlets Council. The meeting hall [Brady Centre] was not spacious enough to accommodate everyone who wanted to get in. Many went away frustrated. But they were soon elated to hear that the meeting had in fact passed a unanimous motion that gave Tower Hamlets Council a clear ultimatum to pass an unequivocal NO to Crossrail hole Motion at the last full council meeting [due to be held] before the [then] scheduled 4 May 2006 local elections. The motion as passed by the 22 January 2006 meeting was proposed extempore by the Khoodeelaar! organiser Muhammad Haque who also wrote the Khoodeelaar! letter summarising the then legal grounds against Christine Gilbert who was told on 31 January 2006 to resign from her post in the Council.VIEW the KHOODEELAAR legal grounds for the sacking of CHRISTINE GILBERT
